In the run up to Armed Forces Day on the 27th June 2009, primary and secondary schools will be showing their support for our Armed Forces through the Ministry of Defence (MOD) sponsored Art and he “Flight To Remember” competitions. To help schools participate further, the MOD has developed an assembly plan to give in the week of Armed Forces Day
The assembly plan is a multimedia interactive experience with opportunities for the students to participate and audio visual materials. It is designed to show the breadth of the work of the Armed Forces and veterans, from dog handlers to reconstruction work.
It honours and celebrates the role of the Armed Forces and veterans in the UK -- and for some students it may be the first time that they have really been engaged with them. Schools can also consider bringing in guest speakers or perhaps if there are teachers who are reservists or veterans, asking them to talk about their experiences.
The materials are available on the Armed Forces Day website:www.armedforcesday.org.uk/Resources.aspx and will also be available on the MOD education resource website www.defencedynamics.mod.uk
