Show Your Support for Armed Forces Day and Win a Day at Sea or in the Air

5 June 2009

The number of ways to support Armed Forces Day continues to grow with the launch of two new competitions.

To support Armed Forces Day, the MOD is running an art competition for children aged 9 to 14. The prize for the competition is a VIP day out with the Royal Navy for the winning entrant and a friend (plus two legal guardians).

The competition is entitled ‘Picture Your Hero’ and entrants are to let their imaginations run wild and draw a picture of their hero. It could be their favourite footballer, superhero, mum or dad or even someone in the military. Submissions – which can be sketched, painted or a collage of images - will be uploaded and displayed online.

The closing date is 26 June. An expert panel, including artist Arabella Dorman, who featured in the April edition of Defence Focus, will then select the winner.

Flight to Remember

Running alongside ’Picture Your Hero’ is a competition to win a ‘Flight to Remember’ with the Blades aerobatics display team (who are all ex-Red Arrows). Entrants are asked to translate a Blades manoeuvre into human form, film it on a camera or mobile phone, and upload it so the public can vote for their favourites.

Entries have now closed for the Flight To Remember competition, but you can still watch and vote for your favourite Flight To Remember.

Gareth won the competition. See his winning entry, and his very own flight to remember, here
