First Armed Forces Day in Kuwait

At four o’clock in the morning on the 27 June, UK time, members of the Joint Force Logistic Component (JFLogC) based in Kuwait gathered early to beat the blistering heat of the day.

Even at this early hour temperatures topped 37 degrees. Under the protection of an engineering hanger, normally used to prepare vehicles and equipment for return to return to UK from OP TELIC in Iraq, US and British personnel joined together in a celebration of the day.

Speaking at the event, Brigadier Paul Stearns the Commander of JFLogC reminded everybody of the 179 UK personnel who gave their lives so courageously in Iraq.

I would like to remember the sacrifice our fellow servicemen and women, I would like you to reflect on your part in ensuring that their legacy is enhanced  by the exemplary way in which we leave this region

JFLogCs Chaplin, Major John Durant, lead the service and took the opportunity to dedicate a set of candlesticks made especially by metal smiths Staff Sergeant Rory Olney and Corporal Chris Hunter from 9 Armoured company.  They were made from iron normally used to repair the bar armour on Armoured fighting vehicles.

This was the first of several events to mark Armed Forces Day in Kuwait that culminated in evening of entertainment supplied by a Combined Services Entertainment team who are visiting Kuwait especially for the day.

Speaking after the event Major Anna-Lee Johnston, who is organising the day’s activities said,

today is a welcome break from the daily hard work undertaken by the Logistic force in ensuring six years worth of kit and equipment is brought home in good order.
