Armed Forces Celebration Day
- Washway Road,
The Armed Forces Celebration Day will aim to raise awareness of the local armed forces in the community by celebrating the impact it has in the community and beyond.
The day will commence at 11am with a meet with Rt. Hon. John Hayes MP and Cllr Rodney Grocock, Vice Chairman of the South Holland District Council and greet with local veterans, many of whom will be interviewed by Tulip Radio about their time in the Armed Forces.
There will be re-enactments of how people lived, and how they dressed throughout the whole weekend.
Several singers will be recreating some war time classics for everyone to sing along to and dance.
A Military Vehicle Display and Rally will give the community an opportunity to witness some of the many machines used during conflicts and learn the history behind them. A mobile war museum will be on display filled with memorabilia of guns, ammunition, film, old uniforms, photos, memories of past soldiers from our community, all collected from the 1st & 2nd World War, decorated with pictures of Spitfires, Lancasters and Tanks. A lunch will be provided by the Anglia Motel and then a ‘Ready Steady Cook’ competition will take place between two forces.
The event will aim to give recognition to those currently serving, and past local Armed Forces Veterans.
