Armed Forces Community Peace Picnic 2019
- Tamworth Rd
Coventry CV7 8NJ
A community Peace Picnic to mark Armed Forces Day and the 75th anniversary of D-Day at the newly established Coventry Community Peace Orchard. The event will bring together serving and former members of the Armed Forces, three local schools and members of local communities who have helped to plant trees, hedges and wildflowers, make seating and design and create an online and on-site resource that explains the importance of the Normandy campaign and Coventry’s importance as a city of peace and reconciliation. Coventry’s Lord Mayor will be invited to launch the new online resource, celebrate peace in our city and and present awards to school groups and adults recovering from mental illness who have helped to create the new Community Peace Orchard.
One of the features of the event will be to bring people from different generations and backgrounds together, including children, adults and people from Armed Forces and civilian backgrounds. Activities will include live ‘period’ music, demonstrations of the new education and heritage resource, games, the release of doves and, of course, a community picnic.
