South Shields — 19 June 2016
Armed Forces Day
- Bents Exhibition Park,
Sea Road, South Shields, Tyne and Wear,
The event is to say THANK YOU to serving personnel and Reservists, and to recognise their contributions. On the day there will be a range of displays and exhibitions to highlight what each branch of the armed forces provides.
Being organised by a small family run motorcycle club, one of the highlights of the day is a cavalcade of around 500 motor bikes who follow a route along the sea front. This will be followed by troops and veterans marching with drums and a pipe band into the park.
The public will be encouraged to show their support and appreciation by lining the route of the march prior to the event being opened and by also by making donations to the many organisations that will be present.
The Lord Lieutenant will take the salute and after a short prayer, a 2 minute silence after which the event will open.
There will be live music and family entertainment throughout the day including an exhibition of 100s of motor bikes, scooters, hot-rods, classic cars, a climbing tower, military displays and vehicles, charity stands, trades stands, food stalls and much more.
