Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome boasts Europe’s largest collection of Royal Flying Corps WW1 buildings which were not adapted for further military use later in its history.

The whole site is open on Armed Forces day with demonstrations from Nimy Company 4RF living history group. All of the exhibitions will be open with vintage aircraft in the hangars. Expert guides on hand to answer your questions and tell stories about the history of the Aerodrome. This includes the latest exhibition, “Words Without Wires” which is a must-see for all fans of early technology, aviation
or the Great War. Boasting a fantastic collection of curious and interesting objects and supported by a
bespoke digital interactive, the exhibition delves into the development of communication
between ground and air. It examines the very first use of Wireless Telegraphy (WT) –
pioneered in Essex, and first used operationally by 37 Squadron, based at RFC Stow
Maries.

The shop will be open selling souvenirs and the Airmen’s Mess cafe is welcoming everyone for breakfast, lunch, snacks, tea, coffee, and Tiptree and home made cakes and scones.

Free parking on site. Wheelchair accessible. Dogs welcome on leads in outdoor areas.
