Armed Forces Day Blue Flash Challenge

The 2nd Armed Forces Day Blue Flash Challenge begins on Friday 23rd June 2017 with a 24 hour/ 100km march from Ft Augustus to Strathpeffer, undertaken by 10 x 4 man teams from various Regiments, Veteran Associations and Public Service personnel. The challengers will end their endurance trek by marching onto the Castle Leod Shinty field to be presented with medals by the Lord Lieutenant of Ross and Cromarty. All sponsors monies raised by the challenge teams will be donated to Scotty’s Little Soldiers, the charity which supports the children of UK Armed Forces personnel who have lost a parent on active service.
Immediately following this, the Combined Armed Forces shinty team and a Scotland Select shinty team will take the field. After the singing of the national anthem, the attending crowd will be invited to take part in the ‘Salute our Forces’ campaign before the Blue Flash Challenge shinty match commences. All proceeds from the entrance fees to the match will be donated to Scotty’s Little Soldiers.
Later in the evening, a grand ceilidh and fundraising auction for Scotty’s Little Soldiers will be held at the Strathpeffer Pavilion with music by the mighty Skipinnish, one of Scotland’s premier live ceilidh bands. There will also be a guest appearance by the Strathpeffer and District pipe band.
On Sunday, 26th June a parade of standards will take place at the Strathpeffer War Memorial, where a unique Blue Flash wreath will be laid and a short service will be held, during which a presentation will be made to the community of Strathpeffer and District, before the attendees and guests disperse.
The weekend’s events will be a chance for the public to show their appreciation for the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom, both past and present and also an opportunity for serving members of the Armed Forces and Veterans to show their appreciation for the community.
