Armed Forces Day Community Event – Portsmouth

Armed Forces Day is a chance for the City of Portsmouth to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces Community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.
The event will start with a flag raising ceremony performed by members of the Royal Navy, Royal Marine Cadets and Veterans associations. The event will include a veterans parade led by the Rose and Thistle Pipe Band, followed by a speech by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Ken Ellcome.
The rest of the day will include a programme of arena displays showcasing our Armed Forces and Cadets organisations this will include a rifle display by the Royal Marine Cadets, a gun display by the Fort Cumberland Guard and a performance by the Rose and Thistle Pipe Band.
There will also be interactive displays, stands and activities for all the family. Stands will include: the Wrens Association; Navy Personnel Welfare; Poppy Appeal; Royal Navy Reserve; SSAFA; Type 42 Association; HMS King Alfred and the Royal Marines Charity.
In addition there will be a D-Day Museum pop up museum as well as a display from the Military Education Trust. There will also be food concessions and children’s rides and face painting.
