Berwick-upon-Tweed Armed Forces Day and Our Garrison Story
A weekend of exhibitions, talks, demonstrations and historical re-enactments celebrating the centuries-old military heritage of Berwick-upon-Tweed.
The event is part of the Berwick 900 Festival celebrating 900 years of the history of the ancient Border garrison town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. The event includes:
- the Armed Forces Day drumhead service and parade
- band display and Ceremony of Beating Retreat at the 18th century barracks
- period encampments and re-enactments at the barracks, gunpowder magazine, main guard and locations around the town’s fortifications depicting the lives of soldiers of Berwick’s garrison from the civil wars of the 17th century until the closure of the barracks depot in 1964
All the events and activities are free of charge to the public.
