Beverley — 3 July 2022
Beverley Armed Forces Day 2022
Beverley Armed Forces Day 2022 will recognise the contribution made from across the armed forces and thank them for their services and sacrifices. There will be a particular focus on the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War and we will also look to remember the 75th anniversaries of VE and VJ day that we were unable to commemorate due to the the cancellation of the two previous Armed Forces Days owing to Covid-19. Starting with a drumhead service in the town’s main square members from the Navy, Army and Air Force as well as cadets and Veterans will parade through the town centre. There will be military displays including photographs and personnel recounting their involvement. These displays will cover campaigns in World War One, World War Two (Europe, Africa and Far East) and more recently, the Falklands, Afghanistan and UN deployments. Military equipment such as Land Rovers and a SVR Recovery Truck will be on display. Cadets from each Service will have a stand and will profile the training opportunities they offer. Various military charities and veterans’ groups including SSAFA, The British Legion, CESA and the NGVA will be present to explain how they support active and veteran armed forces members and their families in our local community. Reservists will have a stand to explain how they function, combining military and civilian life and also highlighting the important support provided by local employers. The event will be supported by the Defence School of Transport, Leconfield which is located on the outskirts of Beverley and it is hoped they will also display information on their assistance given to civilian communities during the current Covid pandemic.
