Armed Forces Day

Bridlington — 29 June 2019

Bridlington Community Armed Forces Day Parade

11:00 am to 4:00 pm

It starts with a parade stepping off from Station Approach at 1100 hrs, with Service Association Standards, veterans, serving personnel, cadets from Bridlington Sea Cadets,Army Cadets and 252 Squadron Air Training Corps ,Bridlington School Combined Cadet Force, scouts, guides and brownies, all escorted by a fleet of ex military vehicles and flanked, as our parade marshalls by motorcycles ridden by members of the Royal British Legion Riders Branch, the Armed Forces Day Parade this year is being joined to the Freedom of Entry of Bridlington that is being bestowed to the Defence Maritime Logistics School (DMLS) Royal Navy based at HMS Raleigh. There will be two Royal Navy contingents of serving personnel from DMLS and they will lead the whole parade through the town this year. When the parade arrives at Alderson House the official presentation of the Entry of Bridlington scroll will be presented to the Officer Commanding Commander Suzi Nielsen, whom, along with the Lord Lieutenant of East Yorkshire and Bridlington Town Mayor , take the salute and inspect the parade. The Alderson House Summer Fayre will immediately follow at around 12:30pm. The Tour de Bridlington Event will start from 9am at Headlands School but there is a special Armed Forces Day fun run at 2pm. The Headlands community event will run all day and will involve cycling and various lengths of runs in the morning and into the afternoon.

We have managed to get road closure for South Marine drive this year, meaning there will be many static displays, including, Royal British Legion Riders, Ex Military vehicles, Humberside Fire and Rescue, HM Coastguard, Bridlington Army Cadet Force recruitment trailer, along with a free to use climbing wall, Static Royals, Bridlington Sea cadets and other military groups that we are still waiting to hear from.

When the parade has been dismissed, the Royal British Legion Alderson House Summer Fayre will commence, free entry, with live entertainment from local bands and singers, BBQ, bar, ice creams ,raffle, cake stalls, tombola, cadet displays and militaria displays. At some stage the veterans of Bridlington will hold a rematch of the brolley drill competition that we lost last year against the cadets!!!

Without the support of the good people of Bridlington our towns Armed Forces Day would not be the success that it is, it’s all organised by a small band of veterans and their friends, but without the people of Bridlington supporting us, it would be nothing, we are fortunate this year to be able to use the Town Council when applying for road closure and some funding, it really has shown that the town is behind us and hopefully will be the first of many when we achieve full road closure, to rival Scarborough Armed Forces Day.

Any veterans and serving personnel are welcome to march, with berets, medals etc, however if all you have is your veterans badge to show your service, that will do for us, join the ranks and march proudly through the town that you, when serving, missed so much.

As ever, we still need non marching volunteers to provide escorts for the parade, you will be issued with hi viz and a full briefing will be given, if you could either message our facebook page or simply turn up on the day, 1030 hrs at Station Approach that would be a great help. We are in need of at least 10 able bodied volunteers to assist with moving barriers at Alderson House on the day as well please, they will be required from 1100 hrs to 1230 hrs on the 29th June 2019
