Celebration of “Armed Forces” Day at the Opening of Orchard Vales Forest School Area.
- EX32 8QY
Front Line Experience: We will be providing the children and our community linked alongside our enriched curriculum to have a first hand experience of what it was like in WW2. We are planning to recreate the trenches and front-line experience in our newly developed Forest School Area, with such activities as Obstacle Course, Marching, Code Breaking, Making a Gas Mask, Sampling and cooking out in the open using recipes from WW2. We will have story telling from veterans along with map reading. We would hope that by providing activities it will give the children and the community a taste of a soldier’s life.
Keep the Home Fires Burning: In contrast to The Front Line Experience we want the children and community to understand what the families left behind felt. So embracing that spirit and social aspect there will be performances of singing and dancing , workshops to include “make do and mend” and enjoy an afternoon tea. Having this opening at this time will compliment the Armed Forces Day which will be held at Chivenor the following week.
