Crawley Armed Forces Day 2019
Crawley Armed Forces Day 2019 is an event for current members of the Armed Forces and the local community. It is an opportunity for them to engage and celebrate the commitment that the Armed Forces provide for our country.
This year’s Armed Forces Day will focus on the D-Day landings that took place 75 years ago and we’re looking to produce and display related artwork by local school children. It is also our intention to run an art and craft workshop on the same theme.
The event will open at 10am with light refreshments. Then a procession will take place with a marching band, standard bearers and children displaying their artwork. Speeches will be presented by The Mayor, Crawley Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Engagement and a representative from 4th Battalion The Prince of Wales’s Royal Regiment. Formalities will be completed with the raising of the flag.
Following this there will be a programme of musical acts performed on the memorial bandstand including, pipers and drummers from a local air cadet squadron, a concert band and two individual singing groups performing relevant material. Additionally there will be various stands from military organizations like The Royal British Legion and SAAFA promoting their services. The 4PWRR will be running activities and displaying equipment. Furthermore there will be two Kit Kar demonstrations performed throughout the day. Other contributions come from Crawley Museum, Gatwick Aviation Museum, T.S Cossack and others.
