Dumfries and Galloways Armed Forces Day and Celebration of our uniformed youth organisations in the International Year of the Young person
- Dock Park
Dumfries DG1 2RY
Following a series of events happening across the region between Monday 25th – Fri 29th June we will Celebrate the Armed Forces and thank them for all they have done and continue to do in the modern world. We will also take this opportunity to celebrate our fantastic young people who have joined our uniformed organisations Army, Navy and Air cadet forces and recognise the excellent work each of these voluntary uniformed organisations do to make our young people better more confident, capable and better citizens of their local communities. We will also use the day to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Royal Air Force.
The day will commence on the High Street, Dumfries with a parade of ex-service personnel marching with the Dumfries Town Band to the Mid Steeple where a small service will take place, supported by the British Legion and Lord Lieutenant. Following the parade lunch will be provided at the Railway club, Dumfries before moving to Dock Park for the main event of the day. This will be an event for the whole community to come together with something provided for everyone. The local cadet units will deliver a Drill competition and Tug-O-War on the green; there will be sporting activities; local entertainment and a Pipe band. We intend that this will not only be a day of ceremony recognising all the men and women of the armed forces do on our behalf but a family orientated fun day out. One not to be missed!
