We are planning to celebrate Armed Forces Day by holding an exhibition of memorabilia and photographs of Ex service personnel experience. There will also be stands promoting support services offered to Ex service personnel locally. Blind dogs and other support services.
Local Schools will be approached and encouraged to involve pupils in the acquisition of memorabilia for the exhibition especially year 9 pupils as this activity is covered in their curriculum.
We plan a concert including our Sea Cadets band also Air Cadets will be involved on the day.
All activity will be publicised through the local press and all community venues and ex-servicemen’s clubs.
We will hold a laying of flowers ceremony and service officiated by a pastor and in attendance will be Deputy Lord lt Cheshire Col John Thompson, the Mayor of Ellesmere Port and our local MP.
It is hoped that by celebrating Armed Forces Day we will raise awareness of the service given by local and community members in the recent and distant past.
We have a steering group to organise the event and members include representation from various ex service organisations. We are also in contact with the Royal British Naval Association, RBL, WRVS and WI and all Cadet Organisations.
