London SE18 4BH
The Royal Borough of Greenwich will once again be holding its largest annual community event The Great Get Together Festival! & Armed Forces Day on Saturday the 24th June 2017.
This is a large community festival with a live music stage, main performance arena, displays and parades taking place and a number of activity zones for all ages. The event runs between 1100 – 1800 hrs. There will be numerous activities including a funfair, health zone, arts and crafts, food stands, children’s play areas and have-a-go activities such as football and an assault course . The live music stage will have local artists performing as well as a military rock band and there will be a display by the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery and the Tigers Parachute Team.
The event is free entry and attracts large numbers who come out and show their support to the local community and Armed Forces. The day will provide an entertaining and engaging event with great Armed Forces Day content for all ages with an emphasis on families and young children. It is a golden opportunity to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces family. Our participants will include current Regular and Reserve troops, local veteran and cadet organisations from the Tri-Service organisation and families.
In the Military Zone there will be static displays and service personnel will be able to completely engage with the local community. There are many stands of varying themes, designed to offer the widest selection of military experience. This will allow the community to learn more about the locations where armed forces personnel have served and demonstrate a selection of various tasks in which they expect to undertake. There will be displays, vehicles and equipment, with a mock-up RN helicopter that the community will be able to interact with. There will be videos and photo boards designed to show the same personnel and equipment ‘in action’ on various recent exercises and deployments.
