The Heugh Battery will be the focal point of the AFD in Hartlepool. It preserves the only WW1 Battlefield in the UK and commemorates the Bombardment of Hartlepool on the 16/12/1914 during which the first British Soldier Theophilus Jones of the DLI was killed. surrounding it there will be displays of Military equipment from the 3 Services both past and present. There will be a climbing wall and a miniature assault course manned by the Army Cadet Force. There will be stalls manned by the 3 services and Veteran organisations including SSAFA which will allow serving personnel, veterans and cadets to interact with the public. The day will culminate with a parade by representatives from D Coy, 8 Rifles, 883 Squadron RLC, Sea/Army/Air Cadets and members of ex-Servicemen’s/Women’s Associations hopefully being led by the Band of the Durham & Northumberland Air Training Corp Band.
There is free parking nearby and will be advertised with the help of Hartlepool Borough Council and local free papers.
