Burnley — 26 June 2021
Healthier Heroes’ Armed Forces Day
Healthier Heroes currently reside at 4-6 Elizabeth street, This is a Grade II listed building, over 22,000 sq ft and is named Bancroft House, after a fallen friend.
We have 21 homeless Veterans living with us whilst they receive mental health, well-being, rehabilitation, employment and training support. Our residents expressed a deep desire to ‘give back’ to the community that has ‘saved them’ and wanted to plan and deliver, with support, an Armed Forces Day event.
The event we wish to put on is free to enter, for the entire veteran community and the public of Burnley. Currently, there are no plans for Burnley to hold an event so we would be honored to do it.
The residents will make food, hold stalls, for the public to purchase from. All of which will be for a small donation. Many of them are crafts men, so wish to make affordable gifts for the community. The musicians amongst them will be playing live music and DJing, there will be craft events, we will open our Cafe space, holistic tents for advice and guidance, advertising space for all other local veteran groups/ business owners as means of free advertisement, other emergency services, fair ground rides and talks from the veterans that live with us. We have applied to the council to block off the entirety of Elizabeth street and have the permission of the local police to do so.
