Hounslow — 29 June 2019
Hounslow Armed Forces Celebration Day
The Afghanistan and Central Asian Association is a registered charity established in 2001 to promote integration and British values among newly-arrived refugees. We plan to hold a community event at our Hounslow centre from 5pm to 9pm on 29th June to celebrate Armed Forces Day among the Afghan and Central Asian refugee and migrant community-based in West London. Hounslow has the largest Afghan population in the UK and we are the only charity operating in West London. The event will include Afghan music, performances, video clips and food/BBQ. The local MP, Mayor and Councillors will also be invited to speak about the importance of Armed Forces Day. The event will be free and open to the public to attend. The event will provide a good networking opportunity and will promote community cohesion and integration. There is parking space in front of our Hounslow centre and is accessible to disabled people. The nearest train station is 10 minutes away by foot. Local charities will also be able to hold a stall and raise awareness about their activities. The event will be a good chance to mix British and Afghan culture and bring the people together and reflect on the commonalities and relations of both countries as well as the sacrifices of British troops in promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan since 2001 and supporting its reconstruction.
