Isle of Man National Armed Forces Day
Isle of Man National Armed Forces Day is to be celebrated throughout the Island for the eleventh consecutive year. Flags will be thrown in all the towns and villages and participants are to be entertained throughout the weekend of 23/25 June. There will be a Mayor’s Reception at the Douglas Town Hall on the Saturday evening.
The main event will commence in Douglas at 3pm on Sunday 25th June 2017 with a march from Regent’s Street along the Promenade to the Villa Marina Hall. The parade will comprise Police, standards, massed brass bands, serving personnel, veterans, cadets, Civil Defence, Emergency Services, Schools and Vintage Cars – perhaps 500 taking part. The Salute will be taken by HE the Lieutenant Governor with the Mayor of Douglas, the Chief Minister, the President of Tynwald, the Speaker of the House of Keys, the Chief Constable and the Chief Fire Officer in attendance.
A Service in the Villa Marina will follow at 3:45pm with a congegration of 1500: the serving personnel will enter in single file after the Lieutenant Governor as their names are read out to a standing ovation. Tea will be provided for the serving personnel, veterans and their dependants at 5pm with a concert in the Hall. Finally there will be an evening’s entertainment with free beer at the bars. Free transport will be provided for those living outside Douglas.
