1 July 2017
Merseyside Armed Forces Celebration Jamboree
- Jubilee Dr
Liverpool L7 8SN
We intend to organise an Armed Forces awareness day at the Kensington Community Sports Centre in Liverpool that will bring together community leaders and members, some veterans and cadets and their family members.
The location has multicultural mix of people. It also has bus and disabled access.
We will be targeting a multi-cultural crowd with particular emphasis on BME people who are most often, unrepresented in the Armed Forces to sensitise them on the role our forces play in defending us and why many more BME people should be encouraged to join the Armed Forces.
Events on the day will include projection of two Youtube videos, titled “Civilians to Soldiers” (BBC Newsbeat) and “United Kingdom Military Power 2017, British Military Power Demonstration”. These two videos follow civilians as they train to join the Army and the power of the UK Armed Forces. The videos are intended to raise awareness and get many more people interested in serving in the Armed Forces and help in defending our ideals of democracy and respect for fundamental human rights. We will get an Army veteran or Army cadet to speak after the projection of the videos and give their personal stories to help reinforce the lessons from the video.
After the video projections, there will be fun packed events including a four team 5 a side football matches, karate demonstrations and a tennis tournament. Medals will be offered to the winning teams and players.
We also intend to hire three local artists to animate events throughout the day.
We will be organising an Army-type dress fashion parade. There will be a short play by local youths who will do a short sketch on the role they have to play at home to keep the family together when dad or mum are away on the battlefield.
Information on the process to recruit into the Armed Forces, healthy eating advice, physical exercise advice will also be available on the day.
There will be free sandwiches, water and soft drinks available for everyone who will attend the events.
