Olive Branch Armed Forces Day Celebration Event

The aims and objectives of the Olive Branch Armed Forces Day Celebration Event will be to:
Recognise and raise awareness of the contribution made by the Armed Forces, including serving forces, veterans and cadets.
Show local veterans from a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds that they are valued and respected.
Educate people from the local community about the Armed Forces and leave them knowing that their support is necessary and very much appreciated.
Promote and publicise the support available for the whole Armed Forces Community, locally, regionally and nationally, including support for Service personnel, their families, widows and veterans).
Involve the widest cross section of people from the local community.
Educate visitors about how they can support the Armed Forces, (including supporting the on-line Armed Forces Day campaign by using ‘#SaluteOurForces’).
Summary / timetable of proposed event(s):
11:00am Formal speech delivered by a local military representative conveying the key messages of the Armed Forces Day event. Introduce attending veterans and serving personnel as ‘guests of honour’. Drumhead Service delivered by Pastor Bryan Scott. Event officially declared open by Lord Mayor of Birmingham.
11:30am Open Serving Personnel, Reservist, Veteran and Cadet Exhibitions in the Main Hall. Begin presentations local music and bands. Commence of family entertainment, including bouncy castle, face paints, sports events, ladies pamper sessions, etc. (These will continue throughout the day). Open equipment displays by the Cadets, Reserves and Fire Service. Open Information stands form local, regional and national organisations providing support for service personnel and their families. Begin sports competitions, races, obstacle course, etc.
12:00pm Presentation on local veterans. Barbeque and local community food
1:00pm Presentation on the local Reserves. Music by the local Reserve Military Band
2:00pm Presentation on ‘Diversity in the Armed Forces’ by the West Indian Ex-Servicemen’s Association.
3:00pm Presentation and display by the local Cadets
4:00pm Prize giving for sports events and competitions
5:00pm Thanks, prayers and closing of event.
