Military life is underpinned by sport it played a major part of any service personnel’s life whilst in the Armed Forces. Sporting Force offers that continued team and competitive aspect alongside recovery from injury and illness both physical and hidden.
Our day will include:
The Recovery and Wellness Centre will be open to the public all day with displays of the variety of sports on offer to the Veterans/reserves and serving personnel and their families.
In the Town centre there will be stalls and larger displays such as Boxercise and Football Skills.
The Roadshow will include display stalls by Armed Forces enthusiasts with vintage weapons and military historical items.
The Cadets and Military Prep College will be invited to do displays such as drill.
As the Veterans Places Pathways and People Portfolio Lead for the NE and Yorkshire we will have all our partner organisations present with the opportunity for people to get advice and support.
We will use the day to raise awareness of the AF community and to highlight their importance to our everyday needs. This will also advertise the organisations in the area that can support veterans/reservists and service leavers to hopefully enable them to get support when needed.
Our ethos is positive recovery led by veterans -Through attending our events and activities participants will experience a sense of connectedness, identity and meaning that will instil hope and empowerment.
The outcomes include the participants gaining a better understanding of how stress can impact on their mental health, develop strategies to manage their mental wellbeing, develop mental “fitness” alongside physical activity, develop strategies and supports for sustaining change. The aim is to move the participants into the Sporting UK Warrior Programmes once their confidence and resilience is restored to continue their wellbeing recovery journey.
