A celebration of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces including the unveiling of two commemorative stones at the newly refurbished War Memorial at 11am and a ceremony at Swanage Railway Station naming a locomotive “The Royal Corps of Signals” at 12:45pm, military music and military themed stalls and events.
Armed Forces Day celebrations will begin at 11:00am at the War Memorial, Shore Road with a ceremony unveiling two stones bearing the Royal Signals cap badge commemorating three decades of association between Swanage and Royal Signals. Serving soldiers and veterans will be in attendance with music provided by the Ringwood Pipe Band. Celebrations will then move to Swanage Railway Station where at 12:45pm a GB Railfreight Locomotive will be named “The Royal Corps of Signals”. Light refreshments and military display stands will be available to view with music provided by the pipe band and also ‘Kelp!’ who will entertain with a medley of sea shanties. All will then retire to the Royal British Legion (non-members will need to sign in) for further revelry.
