The New Caithness Armed Forces Gala 2015
- Gowrie Pl,
The first Caithness Armed Forces Gala aims to attract around 5,000 visitors to learn more about the work of the Armed Forces through a series of displays, side stalls, and other events throughout the day.
The day starts, appropriately, with a brief service of remembrance, entitled ‘Lest We Forget’ organised by the local branch of Royal British Legion Scotland to which all members of the public are invited.
This is followed by a procession through the town comprising marching bands, military vehicles, cadet and reserve forces and veterans. The procession ends up at the Riverside Park where there will be a wide range of stalls including demonstrations of emergency services at work, various military and civil organisations and local commerce. Several local charities, especially those serving disabled and disadvantaged people will be present and on display.
A number of events takes place in the parade ring including pipe bands, dancing horses, local Scottish dance groups, and culminates in a ‘section attack’ and recovery demonstration by members of REME and local reserves.
There is ample parking at Riverside Park, and there is no admission charge to the venue. However, we hope that visitors will dig deep into their pockets to support the charities, youth and armed forces organisations that aim to raise funds.
