On Saturday 24th June 2023, Newport will be the host city for Wales National Armed Forces Day.
The event will celebrate and acknowledge the contribution of those currently serving in the Armed Forces, veterans and volunteers.

Programme

SATURDAY 24th JUNE

10:00 Military Parade

The Military Parade will commence and march through the centre of Newport, concluding with speeches. The Parade will be led by The Regimental Band and Corps of Drums of The Royal Welsh and involve military personnel and veterans from the Tri-Services.

10:00 – 15:00 Attractions and Entertainment

• Military assets and interactive attractions will be located along Kutaisi Walk, on the city’s riverfront,
from close to the Town Bridge to the University of South Wales (USW) campus.
• Red Arrows fly past
• Parachute drop by The Tigers Army Parachute Display Team
• Military exhibitions will be located in city centre venues including the Riverfront Theatre, Newport Museum and Art Gallery and Newport Market
• A commemorative service for HMS Turbulent which was lost in the Mediterranean Sea 80 years ago
• A hub in the Riverfront Theatre for Armed Forces organisations to promote their work including the Royal British Legion, Help for Heroes, SSAFA, Newport Veterans Hub, Royal Naval Association, BLESMA and Combat Stress
• Live music stage located on Kutaisi Walk near the Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre, hosted by Newport City Radio.
• Roaming street entertainment and re-enactment groups

16:00 – 18:00 Military Concert

A free, ticketed Military Concert will take place at Rodney Parade stadium, home to the Dragons rugby team and Newport County AFC.

• Includes performances by The Regimental Band and Corps of Drums of The Royal Welsh, The Royal British Legion Band of Wales and the Military Wives Choir.
• Parachute drop into the stadium by The Tigers Army Parachute Display Team
• Army award presentations and re-signing of the Armed Forces Covenant
• Handover from Newport to Swansea of the hosting of Wales National Armed Forces Day 2024.

Arriving by Bus
Bus stations (NP20 1DL) are located directly opposite the main event area allowing for easy access.

Arriving by Train
Newport train station, High St, Newport NP20 4AX is a 5 minute walk to the event

Disabled Access
The area is flat with plenty of disabled access around the site and public conveniences.
