Wigan — 28 June 2019
Wigan Warriors Armed Forces Day Celebration
The event will celebrate and recognise the continued hard work and sacrifices of all those involved within the Armed Forces family. Working in partnership with the Royal British Legion, local CIC EDS Veterans, Wigan Council and Wigan Warriors Rugby League Club, the event will include numerous activities and opportunities to take part in, including a warm up game between the British Army and the Royal Navy, a Veterans wheelchair rugby league competition (established in 2016 through the Ministry of Defense Covenant Grant), military challenges and assault course and photo opportunities available with military vehicles and hardware located in around the stadium in the build up to the Wigan vs Salford Super League fixture . To celebrate the occasion, serving personnel and veterans will receive a free ticket to the fixture, a Wigan Warriors Poppy badge and be invited down to the pitch at half time for their own celebratory event photo. Wigan Warriors players will wear embroidered poppy’s and the Royal British Legion crest on their warm up shirts and all match-day literature, commentary and build up promotion will heavily focus on the days event. The Royal British Legion Band will also perform on the pitch pre-kick off and the paratroop regiment will be asked to parachute the match ball on to the field.
