Pre-Covid the plan for 2020 was to support the growth of Doncaster’s Armed Forces Day celebration this unfortunately had to be put on hold due to the pandemic but this year we are seeing those plans come to fruition.
As a newly appointed City, Doncaster’s event will move to a larger open space location in Elmfield Park the park itself has historical and modern day links with the Armed Forces – The Cenotaph (2023 centenary year) is located at the entrance gates to the the park and it is also the location of the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry memorial site.
Elmfield Park is an easily accessible space close to the City Centre
Moving to this larger location allows for much more engagement with our communities, more activities, information, advise and guidance for all ages encompassing aspects of the past, present and future.
And more than ever this year we are working closely with our local regiments, veterans associations and cadets and have some very special plans underway which will include regiments and Armed Forces with many years close connections to Doncaster including the Royal Air Force and the Coldstream Guards.
The parade will start at 11am from Sir Nigel Gresley Square.
