Pembroke Dock was once a major Royal dockyard, building over 250 ships for the Royal Navy; while during World War II this small town in West Wales housed an RAF base which became the world’s largest flying boat station. Pembroke Dock was also a key port for the Royal Navy and a garrison town for the Army. The town was heavily bombed by the Luftwaffe during WWII. The community of Pembroke Dock take huge pride in their military heritage.
The Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre celebrates the town’s rich military and cultural history. The Centre is housed in Wales’ only surviving Georgian military chapel, transformed into a fascinating museum that has been granted Accredited status from the Welsh Government.
On Armed Forces Day every year the Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre hosts a special service to honour the entire Armed Forces community, to which the general public are warmly invited. Representatives will attend from all military organisations and the cadet forces, alongside local dignitaries including the Mayors of Pembroke Dock and Pembroke. Replica military vehicles will be displayed.
The event will be held outdoors at the West door of the chapel. The service will begin at 11am sharp.
On this special day public entry to the museum after the service is free of charge. Complimentary refreshments will be available from our Coffee Bar, as well as free activities such as badge making for children attending.
There is ample free parking in the grounds. The Centre is fully accessible, offering step free access to all exhibits, and with disabled toilets.
