Armed Forces Week is Blackpool’s opportunity to say thank you to our heroes. From June 19 – 25 the whole resort comes together welcoming serving military personnel, veterans and cadets, with a wide range of activities targeted at them and their families as well as the many thousands of people visiting Blackpool.
Armed Forces Week Flag Raising Ceremony

Time: approx 10:00 arrival of the flag 10:30 flag raising
Location: Blackpool Town Hall
Blackpool joins the nation in this countrywide tribute. The Armed Forces Day flag will be returned to Blackpool prior to it being raised above the Town Hall at 10:30.
Music For Heroes

Time: Doors approx. 19:00 show 19:30
Location: Empress Ballroom, Blackpool Winter Gardens
Tickets: FREE but includes a £1.00 booking fee per ticket, available from Blackpool Winter Gardens and the VisitBlackpool Tourist Information Centre.

Armed Forces Careers Information Day

Location: Army Recruitment, Houndshill Shopping Centre
In partnership with Blackpool Council Connexions Service, representatives from the Royal Navy, Army and RAF will be available to offer careers guidance to anyone interested in joining the Armed Forces. Come along to the Army recruitment shop, at Houndshill Shopping Centre between 10:00 and 17:00 and speak to the professionals. For further information contact Connexions on 01253 754840.
Going to the Flicks
20 – 22 June 2017
Location: Odeon Cinema Blackpool
Tickets: Invitation only
Going to the Flicks is a special war-time cinema experience especially for local primary school children. The specially commissioned education film covers Blackpool during WWI, what it was like for children during WWII, footage from more recent conflicts, the Union Flag, the National Anthem, and a short Laurel & Hardy sketch. A question and answer session with tri-service military personnel and veterans will follow the film.
Armed Forces Week Afternoon Tea Dance

Tickets: £9.95 available from The Blackpool Tower
The famous Mighty Wurlitzer will be played at an Armed Forces themed afternoon tea dance in the magnificent surroundings of Blackpool’s famous Tower Ballroom. At 14:00 the Standards will march to welcome the Mayor of Blackpool who will be accompanied by serving personnel form the 4th Battalion, the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment.

Members of the Armed Forces, veterans, families, friends and supporters are invited to enjoy a five course meal followed by entertainment from a top-class cabaret line-up and band. Dress code: lounge suits, blazers or black tie. Medals may be worn.
National Armed Forces Day

Location: St John’s Square, and Tower Festival Headland Promenade, Blackpool
Enjoy a full day of entertainment across Blackpool Town Centre and Promenade to celebrate Armed Forces Day, including live musical performances from the Irish Guards Singers, Land Girls, and by the Band & Corps of Drums of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (Lancashire). A number of vintage and modern day military vehicles will form a static display, as well as the famous replica Spitfire and her ground crew who will be on hand to answer all of your questions. There will also be an exhibition from the Great War heritage Project, talks from a local Blackpool historian and much more!
