Our Armed Forces continue to make a tremendous contribution to our Country, and this event gives the people of Clackmannanshire the opportunity to show their support to them. Clackmannanshire Council, its residents, and communities believe it is important that we recognise members of the armed forces who have and continue to make an outstanding contribution to society, putting their lives at risk, all over the world, for the sake of our nation. The Council was delighted to receive the Silver Armed Forces Employer Recognition Scheme in 2025 and is working towards achieving gold level award status.
The agreed date this year for our Armed Forces Day celebrations is the 29th May. The Working Group which consists of Council staff, Provost, Lord-Lieutenant, Royal British Legion, Dollar Academy Pipes & Drums, Dollar Academy Combined Cadet Force, Air Cadets , Clackmannan District Scouts, RHQ SCOTS, Royal Navy, Wee County Veterans, 154 (Scottish) Regiment RLC 102 Logistic Brigade and have agreed that there will be a parade from Alloa Town Centre by our local Veterans, Cadets, Organisations ie Scouts etc., to Alloa Town Hall. Led by the Lord Lieutenant and Provost there will also be an inspection, a Flag Raising ceremony, and a Civic Reception. In addition, the Council’s Education Service will also hold a Hand Flag Waving Competition for the young learners. 2 young learners from each primary school will be selected and invited to join in the Flag Raising Ceremony and attend the Civic Reception for a small presentation. This year we are hoping to encourage more residents to attend by holding a larger display in the Town Hall car park, which demonstrates the work of our Armed Forces for our young learners and members of the community.
From previous years we are expecting approximately 130 to take part in the Parade; approximately 250 young learners will attend to view proceedings, and around 80 guests are expected to attend. A small reception will be held for guests after the parade, with refreshments and presentations from our Provost and Lord Lieutenant. The Working Group want to make this event extra special this year with the disappointment at having to cancel last year’s event.
