This will be the 1st AFD event in Havant other than the usual flag raising at the council offices. Were hoping to bring more awarness of the services offered by various veteran charities ie Havant veterans support hub, Havant RBL EX Servicemen’s club and local governance schools and employers.
There is a rich military history in Havant not just from the 1st world war where the local Hampshire regiment was raised of which there standards now hang in St faiths church. There is also a naval connection due to there being a naval camp here during the 2nd world war and in recent decades, HMS Havant being name after the town. We have Baker Barracks on Thorney island housing 2 artillery regiments with a 3rd on its way, and would like to show their connection with the town as well as other regular and reserve units and blue light services that surround Havant. These include C COY 4PWRR, Army Air Corps, Royal Engineers etc from Cosham and Hilsea, Havant police and local fire and Ambulance . More importantly the various cadet units in the area allowing many teens to find the benefits and possibly leading onto a life in service.
This is without mentioning the 5420 veterans reportedly living in the borough. Also the fact that Havant was reported to be one of the top ten enclaves for veterans and there familys to settle in from the last general census. So we believe that an event like this is so important to the area.
The event it self will begin with two helicopters flying in from a military helicopter restoration charity. Followed by a veterans and serving march past parade and salute with mayor and local dignitaries. There will be a parachute display team jumping in to the arena as well as displays by local military reserves, cadets and military bands.
There will be charities and various organisations from that sit on Havant borough council armed forces stakeholders group. Local veteran employers showcasing jobs to service leavers ie Amazon, Pfizer, Thales, Lockheed Martin and BAE.
So lots condensed into one magnificent celebration of our modern military and history within in and around the Havant area
