Manchester Armed Forces Day: A Big Thank You

A premier Manchester City Centre Square, St Peter’s Square, will be home to a host of activities planned for Armed Forces Day 11am to 4pm. Whilst they are at development stage at present, activities are expected to include:

• Parade of Veterans of all ages (approximately 150) and Standards – serving personnel lead the Parade – this begins the proceedings at 11am
• Speech from Lord Lieutenant, and Military representatives (tbc) to give thanks to serving personnel, reservists, veterans and cadets – when the parade has formed up
• Performance stage for band (x1 military and x1 other to ensure music throughout the day suitable for all ages) – to begin after the Parade and speeches
• Information Stalls offering information about Cadets, RBL, Veteran Agencies, support services
• Display vehicles / equipment from Armed Forces such as:
o Jet Provost cockpit display
o Light Gun
o Jeep
o Chieftain Tank

• Learn & Explore Zone:
o Activity delivered in partnership with Libraries/Archives+ to demonstrate local history and role of military within it
o Family friendly art workshops and activities for all ages

• Opportunity to try on military kit / uniform
• Climbing wall
• Food and drink concessions
• Picnic style seating area for public to sit and enjoy food and drink when soaking up atmosphere
• Opportunity for members of the public to say their own thank you on the day via interactive art activity and/or social media
