Reading Armed Forces Day is set to be a fantastic celebration right in the heart of our town, bringing the community together across the Forbury Gardens and Broad Street for a full day of family-friendly fun, live entertainment and inspiring activities.
Across Broad Street, local Armed Forces organisations and charities will be hosting vibrant stalls, offering the chance to meet serving personnel, veterans and cadets, and learn more about the incredible work they do. From engaging demonstrations to informative displays, it’s a great opportunity to show your support, ask questions and discover how these organisations make a difference both locally and nationally. A number of Armed Forces charities will also be present, raising awareness and funds to continue supporting members of the military community and their families.
Adding to the atmosphere, we’re delighted to welcome an Army Band alongside the much-loved Reading Scottish Pipe Band, who will be marching and performing throughout the day. Expect stirring military music, traditional pipe tunes and plenty of moments that will make you stop, smile and soak up the pride of the occasion.
Over in the Forbury Gardens, the celebrations continue with brass band concerts running throughout the day, creating the perfect soundtrack for a relaxed afternoon in the park. There will be plenty to keep younger visitors entertained too, with free children’s activities including face painting, a climbing wall and an exciting assault course for those ready to test their skills and burn off some energy.
You’ll also find local vendors serving refreshments in the Gardens, offering everything you need to refuel while enjoying the festivities. Whether you’re stopping by for an hour or spending the whole day with us, there will be something for everyone.
