The inaugural Amesbury Armed Forces Day Celebration on Holders Field, a vibrant, large-scale family fun day dedicated to honouring the bravery and service of our Armed Forces community. Set against the historic backdrop of Salisbury Plain, home to one of the UK’s largest military training areas, this event aims to become the premier focal point for Armed Forces Day festivities across the entire region, filling the gap left by the absence of celebrations in Tidworth this year. It’s designed for everyone: serving military personnel from local units like those at Bulford, Larkhill, and Tidworth garrisons; veterans, families seeking a day of unity and funand the wider public eager to show support and learn about our armed services.
From 12 PM to 6 PM on Sunday, 21 June 2026, expect a packed programme blending tribute, entertainment, and community spirit on a grand scale. We aspire to kick off with a stirring opening ceremony featuring our local units, flag-raising, and performances by local bands and the Army’s own musicians. With interactive displays we hope to showcase, including modern military vehicles, equipment, and historical reenactments tied to Salisbury Plain’s rich heritage, including its role in training for global operations. Families will love the expansive kids’ zone with carnival rides, bouncy castles, face painting, and educational workshops on resilience and teamwork. Food lovers can enjoy a diverse array of street food stalls, BBQ pits, and picnic areas, while charity booths from organisations like the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes offer ways to give back.
Veterans’ lounges provide quiet spaces for reunions and welfare support, with guest speakers sharing inspiring tales. Live entertainment escalates in the afternoon with high-energy shows, aerial flypasts (subject to availability), and a closing concert under the summer sky. With free entry for all serving personnel, veterans, cadets, and their families (ID required), and affordable access for the public, we anticipate drawing thousands from across Wiltshire and beyond, fostering lasting connections and pride. Organised by the Stonehenge Chamber of Commerce and Amesbury Carnival Committee, this ambitious event promises to unite communities, boost local morale, and set a new standard for regional Armed Forces Day commemoration.
