Event Description – Shake & Stir Armed Forces Weekend 2026

Shake & Stir Armed Forces Weekend will take place in Southbourne on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June 2026, celebrating our Armed Forces past and present through music, history, and community participation.

The event is for the whole community – families, veterans, cadets, young people, and visitors of all ages – with a special focus on honouring service, promoting inclusion, and educating future generations.

On Saturday 27th June, the programme will feature 1940s–60s music and dancing, including lindy hop and jive, plus a unique performance by the Bangar Beatles, blending Beatles classics with Bhangra rhythms to add colour and diversity. The day will also include Armed Forces parades, “Beating the Retreat”, cadet involvement, and military vehicles on display.

On Sunday 28th June, the focus shifts to 1970s–80s music, with disco and live bands alongside vibrant Bollywood dance shows and workshops.

Across the weekend, a History Hub exhibition will tell the story of the Armed Forces, with the BCP Indian Association curating a special exhibition highlighting the links between Indian Army soldiers and Bournemouth during the World Wars.

The event will also feature family activities, stalls, community performances, and opportunities to meet and engage with serving personnel, veterans, and cadet groups.

In partnership with the charity Helping Homeless Veterans UK, we will use the weekend not only to celebrate but also to raise awareness and support for those who have served.

This will be a free, inclusive, and family-friendly event, bringing together culture, heritage, and community pride in honour of our Armed Forces.
