Over the past two years we have been running our special “Soldier: An Armed Forces Day celebration” event in Camden, London and it’s been a wonderful success. This year, we want to do something g slightly different by bringing it to Essex. We’ve teamed up with the Kelvedon Institute to bring the project to life for a fresh community.

The project includes running a series of small workshops bringing together local armed forces personnel, members of our local cadets and retired service personnel from the local Witham Royal British Legion and local members of the community. Through these workshops we learn and share about what life is like in the army – both as soldiers and what family life is like – growing an understanding and an appreciation of our Armed Forces. We will explore what the armed forces do for us – encouraging members of the public to share stories and highlighting the work that they do to support our public services, education and supporting our local youth as well as jumping in to help with flood rescues and storm damage.

We will then create a special small theatrical performance to take place on Saturday 7th July at the Kelvedon Institute about life as a soldier and celebrating the work that they do and the support they receive in the army. Leading on from some of the feedback which we received last year, we want to add something more special this year. We want to accompany the performance with a visual pop-up display created in our workshops celebrating all the wonderful things which the army does. The performance/sharing event will be free and open to the community and our local armed forces personnel invited to attend. As in past years, we will encourage people to offer their support through the #Saluteourforces initiative.
