Armed Forces Day

North East Lincolnshire marks 100 days to go

For 100 Days to go in Cleethorpes, an RAF Tornado flew over the Armed Forces Gate in Cleethorpes at midday, watched by children from a local school. To get into the celebratory spirit personnel from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force held a special school lesson for the children in how to salute properly.
Cleethorpes schoolchildren get into the celebratory spirit ahead of Armed Forces Day

The 100 day countdown to Armed Forces Day began today, with our National Event hosts Cleethorpes kicking celebrations off in style.

To mark the milestone, children from a local school gathered with military personnel, cadets and dignitaries at the Armed Forces Gate on the Cleethorpes seafront to raise the Union Flag and the flags of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force and Merchant Navy.

In a nod to the Armed Forces Day call to #SaluteOurForces, service personnel from all three Services taught the children how to salute like a member of the military.

And in a final spectacular flourish, an RAF Tornado flew over the crowd at midday, with everyone saluting the aircraft as it passed overhead.
